Upgrade pricing SF AI and SF AI+IT8-> Studio+IT8

Postby wolke » Tue Dec 14, 2004 3:36 am

Hello all!

Can someone explain me the upgrade pricing from SF AI 6 to Studio?

I actually own two Versions SF AI 6 with IT8 option, one for Epson 1680pro and one for Minolta EliteScan 5400. So how much would i have to pay for the Studio upgrades with IT8 functionality?

As far as i can see (and understand) on the Silverfast page, the upgrade from version 6 AI is only 59$ or EURO, while the upgrade WITH IT8 would cost almost 2/3 of the full retail price for new customers. Does this make any sense to you? Why that big difference in the upgrade pricing or have i got something wrong there? :-?

I agree with you.
I got both epson 3200 w/IT8 and Nikon LS-4000ED (w/IT8)... the upgrade fee is too costly...

Hello again!

Just to clear things up:
I?m NOT whining about the costs, i just like to really find out, what makes the big difference from 59 to let?s say 129 EURO for the upgrade!

As far as i can see, Iceman and me have allready paid for the IT8 function. So what we would get from the update is mainly (to name only the usefull things to me)

1) printing dialog,
2) autoadaptive contrast tool,
3) scalable unsharpmasking tool,
4) picture setting tool

So once again the question, what makes the price difference to the IT8 upgrade?
Can one of the officials make a statement to clear up the confusion?

Thanks in advance!

hi, i'm by no means an official, but i've had similar confusions. andd then when i realized a short while ago that the upgrade fees were separate (w/ and w/o it8) calibration, but when i paid for my upgrade the option was not available, while i had what seemd to be a calibration feature functioning in my versio of silverfast studio. so, it seems that certain scanners (my microtek 1800f, for examlpe) come automatically with it8 calibration enabled, for both the regular ai and the studio upgrade. as does, aparently the nikon ls 5000 (which is what i'm doing in the forums right now, trying to clarify that. my suggestion is to go through the order process (buy online), and stop short of paying or earlier if you can get the info prior to that, but see what is included). if i remember correctly from what i was doing on the site the other night, the check boxes for it8 calibration for the product was both checked and greyed out (included and not a removable option) on the page where you are choosing what software you want to buy.

i just checked and it is included with the ls 4000, too. but i think that's the same app as for the 5000.

finally, here is an interesting thread that i just scanned through, though i've not yet checked out the given links. good luck. this is great software, but this upgrade process is indicative of some small problems that i've been having with the software itself, which had stopped my workflow for days at a time for a few very minor details. the documentation in some ways is incredibly extensive, yet it is still so amazingly vague, and then between the ian lyons web tutorials and the taz tally book there is even conflicting info . . . . i love it but i hate it but i'm about to order this same app for my 2nd scanner, so . . . .

Hmmm, thanks for your statements!

So i think the update/upgrade page would need a kind of checkbox form where one can define exactly the options he needs or wants to add (targets yes/no, IT8 yes/no etc.), and then the form would auto- recalculate the update price fitting to that special order. As far as i can see, i am not alone with my confusion so this would make sense...

Anyway, no statement of any kind from officials to the price difference of AI+AI w.IT8 makes me wonder...

it makes sense that you're awake, being in austria, me, i should be in bed, but i'm up scanning. there are actually checkboxes on the order page, there is another post that i came across within the past few days viewtopic.php?t=3209&highlight=upgrade+it8 which explains it a bit better than i can, b/c it has all become pretty jumbled to me as i try to figure out how to get both of my scanners working their best, monitors calibrated, etc. a note however, i've learned in the lst day that calibration does NOT work with negatives at the moment, so that's something to keep in mind. the negafix, i'm assuming works as the calbration, assuming some rough standard for the processed color neg film, mainly just trying to counteract the color cast of the film-base. i am imagining that the intial price jump is for the reverse-engineering that lasersoft must have to do for each scanner as far as the drivers go and how each one reads the light, etc. which is why i'm not so frious about having to buy the same software AGAIN, for my second scanner, b/c it is sort of like a whole new application (in ways), but the price gouge for simply upgrading to it8 studio from it8 ai is pretty harsh. not much choice on our end though. it seems to be the best app out there, as long as the scanner is capable of producing the results. anyway, good luck, wolke, i need to go to bed, it's 3:36 a.m. here in new york city.

michael.

I didn?t read the link you?ve postet before, now it?s a little better to understand. But as Noak told, the page needs a revision...

So have a good night michael!

BTW.
The negafix is more a kind of special and additional "colorcorrection" than a "calibration", because it only filters the unwanted colorcast of neagtive film emulsion instead of defining a device as beeing "color neutral"! Just for better understanding...

i actually haven't read it yet either, i just read his post in this forum and have bookmarked his page to read later. i wan't ready to learn why this software (which sems to be the best scanning-driver alternative for me for the moment) and which you and i are about to spend more money on, is awful.

Dear all,

lets make things clearer: the IT8 option is retained with the Studio Ugrade if you enter your IT8 serial into the form (some of you may have received 2 SF serials - one with and another without IT8). The price is in both cases the same! (59$)

The difference between upgrade prices with and w/o IT8 is primarily for customers who have currently NO IT8.

Sorry for the confusion, we've got this thing explained better now. Hope this helps :)
