Transparency film types for scanner profiles

I have read all the posts about IT8 targets and profiling.

If scanner profiles are accurate regardless of the type of film the targets use, then why are different types available?

I have both the Fuji and Kodak IT8 targets; if there is an important difference between them, how do I use them in everyday scanning? Should I change the profile in use according to the type of film I'm scanning? This seems onerous. And what if I'm scanning Agfa film?

Despite these questions, I have observed a significant improvement in the color accuracy of my scans since profiling my scanner. I just want to understand the nuances if possible.

the ICC's IT8 calibration standards 7.1 and 7.2 define how input device calibration can be done for the imaging industries.
Using a specific film material for that purpose can be perceived as being not necessary. Even if one film material represents colours differently than another, these differences are described in a target's reference files. The input profile that is being generated in the end will be applicable to all positive scanning with the calibrated source of light.

However, there's an active discussion on the impact of using a target of the same film material you actual images are developed on in order to minize colour deviance as good as it gets.
While I won't tackle that subject here, we simply reflect customers demand by offering target on different film.
