Hi,
I have just done some test scans with the demo version of SF Ai & SE. I scanned a color negative slide with my epson perfection 1240U, and, SE took, with the same settings, exactly DOUBLE the amount of time as Ai to scan the frame. Is this normal? I thought SE & Ai are essentially the same programs, with one just having more options than the other.

Speed differences between SE & Ai?

I've received the same results with my bundled version of SE compared to the AI demo. I actually timed the scans at 2400 DPI from SE, AI and the Epson twain (I have a 2450 scanner) and SE took 7:55, AI 3:25 and the Twain driver
6:10. The settings for both SE and AI were the same. I'm using them as photoshop plug-ins, not twain. Any particular reason for this discrepancy (like features being stripped from the demo making it faster), or does the more expensive package feature a speed jump?
On a related note, I've been thinking about upgrading to AI, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do it on this website without ordering it from scratch and having it shipped to me, which I don't want to do. I have to start hiding a few expenses, or my wife will start spending more. What a frightening thought!
