Interface: Photoshop CS2 and Standalone
Scanner: Nikon Super Coolscan 5000
Connection type: USB
SilverFast type: Ai Studio
Operating system: Windows XP
I had installed Silverfast AI Studio and used it for a few scans
successfully. I uninstalled the software and re-installed (un related
reason). Now I when I bring it up (either via PhotoShop CS2 plug-in or in
stand alone) It hangs on the intial screen saying 'Searching for Scanning
Hardware' (or something just like that). Basically it seems it cannot find
the scanner.
The Nikon4.02 software is installed and can access the scanner just fine.
Also, I can see the scanner listed correctly in 'System Devices'.
I have tried un-installing and installing again with the same result. I
have noticed that although I have deleted everthing (uninstall and cleaned
out the registry settings) I never prompted for the serial number
registration (this only happened the first time I installed) so it seem
like it is not completley un installed. Any ideas?
Silverfast cannot find scanner after uninstall/re-install

seawolf,
Give this a try. They recommend installing the Nikon software prior to installing SilverFast.

How to correctly (re)install SilverFast software for NikonM devices.
NikonM devices are: LS30/40, LS2000/4000 and LS8000.
A: conditions
1. prior to install SilverFast please completely delete older versions of SilverFast(NikonM).
2. Please DO NOT INSTALL NikonScan 3.0 or 3.1 subsequently on your computer as NikonScan software will possibly overwrite files that are commonly used and might replace necessary files with older versions of the same files!
No such problem as long as NikonScan was installed before SilverFast software.
3. If using SilverFast with Nikon LS 30/2000 the Chip-release (Firmware release) of that scanner must be ver. 1.31. Please refer to http://www.nikontechusa.com
How to uninstall older SilverFast(NikonM) software completely?
Location(s) of SilverFast program files are:
SilverFast as Photoshop plug-in on Windows:
- use the system?s uninstall routine first and subsequently search for remnants of SilverFast here:
(hard disk) ...Adobe / Photoshop / Plugins / Import-Export /
- delete these files: "SilverFast(NikonM).8ba" and "SF_logfile.txt" if present
- also delete the entire subfolder "SilverFast(NikonM)" if present
SilverFast as TWAIN software on Windows:
(hard drive) windows / TWAIN_32 / LaserSoft /
- delete these file: "SilverFast(NikonM).ds" if still present
- also delete the entire folder "SilverFast(NikonM)" with all subfolders, if still present.
Location of Nikon communication files on Windows:
drive:\Program Files\Common Files\Nikon\Maid Mods
- delete the entire "Maid Mods" directory, if present
Location of Nikon device drivers on Windows:
- delete these files if any of them exist after you ran the software deinstallation routine:
Windows XP
drive:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CML2.DLL
drive:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\LS2000.MD3
drive:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\NKD_SCSI.DLL
drive:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SDCLW32.DLL

Thanks, This is just what I was looking for.
I do believe I missed somethings in the uninstall. Thank you for the information! I will try it tonight.
It did not work.
Thanks for the info... a rather complicated install, but I am a systems analyst in RL so no problem. I am disappointed that the $500 in software and ICC target that I paid for cannot even install correctly. Nikon Scan is working fine however. It will be telling for me to see how long it takes SilverFast support to respond. Thanks for you effort anyway, it was good info.

Wow,
Sorry to hear that you have having these problems! I wish I could help because I know how frustrating it can be when something does not work, especially after paying a lot of money.
I am sure that LaserSoft will solve the problem eventually though.
