Silverfast Ai 601 r 19

Postby Thade » Wed Oct 16, 2002 7:15 pm

Dear all,

I downloaded release 19 for my scanner / OS from the website. It appeared to install OK.

After some troubles which I will ascribe to my inexperience, I got things working again.

Not for long; the system crashes now on every second scan, requiring a restart of SF and FotoStation.

I think the crash may have something to do with an interrupt conflict, although I cannot find one. If the mouse is touched during scanning, the system crashes immediately. When the mouse is left alone it crashes also, but later in the process. Interrupt conflict is not obvious; mouse uses Interrupt 12, Scanner uses 22, windows XP does not see an interrupt conflict.

I uninstalled SFai, before installing the upgrade. When problems occurred, I uninstalled and reinstalled FotoStation to no avail.

Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

I am runing Nikon LS4000ED, P4 2 Ghz, IntelMotherboard, 512 Mb RAM, Windows XP-home, SF ai 6.0.1r19, IT8, FotoStation 4.5 build 141.

In an attempt to check whether FotoStation might be part of the problem, I downloaded a trial version of Photoshop Elements. Unfortunately the same problem occurs there. So it is definitely the new release of SFai 6 causing problems.

Silverfast,

For all I can see, Silverfast 6 - release 19 does not work with Photoshop, or with FotoStation. Release 13 did. So I have to advise others not to update to release 19 and wait for a debugged version...

In the meantime, for the technically minded; there is a slight diffence in the way Photoshop and FotoStation crash: Fotostation just crashes at the merest touch to the mouse, it suggests that we post the crash to Microsoft, and then gracefully removes itself from the screen. Photoshop however, reports a failure to the plugin module interface and then freezes. It is quite difficult to regain control of the computer and restart the application.

Dear Thade,
did you update your Windows to WinXP (from a previous Windows system) or did you do the full installation onto HDD?

Windows XP on my computer is a full "home" version, it never had a previous version installed. Windows XP is the only operating system that has ever been installed on it. I installed Service Pack1 a few weeks ago, it is fully up to date. There are no driver or interrupt conflicts as far as I can see.

Well, a reply would have been nice, but the problem appears to have been addressed in release 28, recently made available on the website.
