SilverFast 6.5 on Windows Vista

Postby ricardoguitz » Sat Jan 20, 2007 3:36 am

Hello, has anyone tried 6.5 on Windows Vista? It installs OK, but the Windows Fax And Scan feature intereferes with it, I uninstalled Fax and Scan but it still, randomly, while you batch scan, a "New Scan" windos unrelated to SilverFast comes up. If you Cancel it fast enough your batch scan continues, but it means you must be at the computer and ready to Cancel for the whole duration of the batch scan.

Hello,
we are currently working on smoothing SilverFast 6.5 for Vista :-)

Which Version did you use and ( if so ) which Scanner/driver version did you connect ?
( EPSON or DC-VLT or ??? )

Thank you,

SilverFast 6.5.0r4 released?

Postby ricardoguitz » Wed Feb 14, 2007 3:43 am

The home area of the web site says 6.5.0r4 released. Will this be the smoothed for Vista version? Please say it's so.

Thank You!

Dear Ricardo,
to keep it short:

>Will this be the smoothed for Vista version?

Not officially, we are currently experiencing Problems here and there, interestingly enough not because of new features of Vista but mainly because of one annoying Bug in the STI Interface...

Also not officially: Canon & EPSON Scanners have a much higher probability of working Vista okay with r4, but give us some more moments to smoothen out Problems for other brands and some minor flaws for Canon and EPSON too.
Be sure that we will mention it on our Website if we are more confident in Vista compatibility...

Greetings, and don't spread the word until its official :-)

I assume the problems I have with 6.5.3re are related to the smoothing. Software seems to start and scanner seems to be found OK but on prescan the software/scanner hangs and the light on the scanner is flashing. Happens in styand alone and when trying to acquire/import into photoshop 7

Using the Epson 4180 with the latest download of Epson software and drivers (version 3.04E). Problem is Silverfast seems to start and recognise scanner. Starting a preview scan the Silverfast begins but then stops with the green Epson light flashing. Get the message of warming up lamp.

just tried again. Saw the warming up message twice during prescan. Marquee box present after it seems to be "Done". Then can't find device. Checked windows device manager which says the scanner is working and driver version 3.0.4.0 by Epson with location as Port_#0003.Hub_#0003

Don't know if throws any further light or not.

Exiting Silverfast and restarting gave a message that no scanner was found.

6.5.0r4 install on Vista worked for me, but

Postby ricardoguitz » Sat Feb 24, 2007 3:45 am

I am using a MicroTek ScanMaker i800. Unfortunately the Windows Vista scan function tries to do the scan and interferes with SilverFast. I am scanning 35mm negatives, it's possible to get one or two good scans, but it randomly makes most of the frames just blanks.
