SF Launcher Nonfunctional

I'd like to try out SF but it is nonfunctional after installation. I downloaded and installed SFE-6.4.4r2(Minolta), rebooted, etc. but when I push Start, the launcher hesitates, then asks for the location of "BatchPict.tif" then fails to do anything further.

This is not good.

v**s**n works well, although the Minolta Dimage plugin is apparently broken in the latest Photoshop CS2 Upgrade. Since Minolta is no longer in the scanner business, I have only v**s**n or AI as my options.

Anyone encountering this? Should I just give up and continue using v**s**n?
