Hello
The SF-6-Launcher opens Photshop by default after scanning.
This weekend I did not found a setting file to change this for instance to another software that understands the Photoshop plugin.
Many thanks in advance.
Yours,
Norbert

Hello nmetzner,
The answer to your question about TWAIN is as follows:
"Answer: An image capture API for Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh operating systems. The standard was first released in 1992, and is currently ratified at version 1.9 as of January 2000. TWAIN is typically used as an interface between image processing software and a scanner or digital camera.
The word TWAIN is from Kipling's "The Ballad of East and West" - "...and never the twain shall meet...", reflecting the difficulty, at the time, of connecting scanners and personal computers. It was up-cased to TWAIN to make it more distinctive. This led people to believe it was an acronym, and then to a contest to come up with an expansion. None were selected, but the entry "Technology Without An Interesting Name" continues to haunt the standard. "
Information source: http://www.twain.org
I recommend that you visit the following link and update your version of SilverFast as a first step. You will see two options once you locate your particular version; The Twain + PhotoShop plug-in and the Twain versions.
Question for you, are you currently launching SilverFast as a stand alone application, or are you starting it from within your application? If you are starting SilverFast as a stand alone application the default is for it to scan to file Vs opening PhotoShop.
If you are still having this issue after updating your software I recommend that you complete a LaserSoft support request at the support link below.

Dear RAG
Last night I updated SF V.6.4.2r5d to SF V.6.4.2r9 (It seems that SF is updated frequently because I bought the scanner and the software last weak).
Last night I made only the test with the new version on my G3 MiniTower, MacOS 9.2.2, and Acrobat 4.0.5a Update1 with the following results:
? SF doesn't crash anymore when printing on Apple LaserWriter 12/640 PS, but the result is a white page (no content).
? To start the application in Acrobat is still impossible.
On the dowload page there has been a button labled TWAIN, thus I started this download too and installed the software.
Now I can start SF in Acrobat and create PDFs, but
a) the PDFs are inverse with a lable like ?DEMO?;
b) I am not able to serialise the software because the window disappears when clicking on it;
c) printing directly crashes SF.
At the moment, I am unsure what I shall do - to deinstall SilverFast and look for another scanner software or to contact SF's support center. I'm feeling like a compulsory beta tester.
Yours,
Norbert

I am having a hard time trying to figure out why you insist on using Acrobat. If you scan into PS and then save it as a PDF you are accomplishing the same thing I have used this program since 1998 and in my own opinion it is the best program on the market. I do not print from it since I use PS as my main program and I print from that.
The fact that SF is upgraded frequently is because they support many scanners which makes it necessary to tweak certain parts of the program so a particular scanner works better If you go under News at the top of this page and then Products you will see what improvements were done with the latest upgrade. The fact that you bought your scanner last week does not mean you have the current version. The scanner could have been packaged months ago and that is when the software was put into the box.
If I were you I would file a support request, you will find SF's tech support to be excellent and they will solve your issues. I spent over 6 months learning this software from top to bottom and I can honestly say there is none better. Yes, I had my technical issues in the begining and they do work out.
I would just try to make a good scan and go with the standard workflow, it just seems like your trying everything and nothing works properly which can be frustrating. The documentation for Silverfast is excellent compared to other scanning software. I suggest you read it through.

nmetzner,
I'm not going to try and convince you to work with SilverFast. I don't work for LaserSoft; I am just a fellow SilverFast user.
The "Demo" on your scan means that you are using an un-registered version of the software.
At this point the best thing would be for you to contact technical support, or like you stated, get another program if you feel that is best for you.
Good luck which ever direction you choose.

Dear kmart
You wrote: ?I am having a hard time to figure out why ou insist on using Acrobat.?
The reason is because it is faster to achivate something using the direct way. Another example: If you have to put together a PDF brochure using A3 and A4 scans you are able to do it in one file and one step. There is a world beside Photoshop that uses scanners and this world is at least as big as the Photosop world.
You wrote: ?If you scan into PS and then save it as a PDF ...?
The same thing again. It's impossible to do it directly. I have to create a PS file, open Distiller, cereate a PDF, and delete the PS file. How would you rate such a workflow?
I bought a high-end scanner and SF because sometimes I need quality scanns for making something in Photoshop, but that's not the only task in my office.
Who would create a human being with a right arm only because 98 % are right-hander?

Hey Norbert,
I am using Photoshop CS2 and Acrobat 7, which obviously makes all of the difference in this particular case. It just occurred to me that you are using older versions of both programs, sorry for missing that point earlier!
Photoshop CS2 allows you to save Photoshop PDF files, and you are able to specify the version of Acrobat compatibility in the save dialog. This eliminates the extra steps you mention and I think that may be why kmart didn't understand your workflow problem as well.
