Hello
I am working with a G3 MiniTower, MacOS 9.2.2, SF 6, and Acrobat 4.0.5a Update1 on a Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL using the SCSI interface.
With my old scanner software I was able to archive directly using Acrobat -> File -> Import ?> Scannen?
With SF 6 this way is impossible (My mistake).
Nevertheless I am asking if somebody knows an efficient workaround since 60 percent of my work is to archive documents the rest is photshop staff only.
Many thanks in advance.
Yours,
Norbert

Hello nmetzner,
I am assuming you are trying to scan directly into Acrobat.
I don't know what version of Photoshop you have, but if it is CS2 you should have the ability to "Save As" Photoshop PDF with a one page limitation. This method will work if there is a particular reason you are using SilverFast to scan documents but, if not you should be able to use your old scanner software. SilverFast does not, at least in my case, remove the Scanner's (i.e. Microtek's) software.
Another possibility is to batch scan your documents to file using SilverFast and then use Create PDF > From File in Acrobat.
Hope this helps!

Hello RAG
I am able to create a PDF from Photoshop using the PDF Writer, but this is not the topic.
You should be able to creat a PDF using Acrobat and the scanner software only. If you archivate something starting Photoshop you are in a roundabout way.
The direct way is Acrobat -> scanner software -> Acrobat. For years I could go this way. With my new scanner (Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL) and new scanner software (SF 6.4.2r5d) I cannot manage it, never using the old computer (G3 MiniTower, MacOS 9.2.2, Acrobat 4.0.5a Update1) nor the new one (iMac, MacOS 10.3.9, Acrobat 6.0 Professional).
Yours,
Norbert

Hello Norbert,
Silverfast, to my knowledge, does not have an Acrobat scanning plug-in, but you should still be able to use "ScanMaker" as before.
I use SilverFast for my Photoshop scans and the "Epson" WIA (Windows Image Acquisition, which is similar to TWAIN for this conversation) to scan in Acrobat.

Dear RAG
With regard to the SF Acrobat TWAIN plugin I made another experience last night.
There is one, at least for MacOS 9, because I downloaded and installed it, but it has some weaknesses. I'll make a little summary.
To jump between scanning softwares when changing the task is a solution in the sens of a woraround and therefore not my aim. ? With my new high-end scanner two scanning softwares were delivered: ScanWizard Pro and SilverFast Ai. Till now I cannot manage my tasks neither with ScanWizard Pro nor with SilverFast Ai.
Please take into account that when I bought my old ?middle-end? scanner one software were delivered, and all tasks (Photoshop, Adobe, etc.) could be done after having installed it.
Yours,
Norbert

nmetzner,
I understand I have had several scanners over the years. The last two scanners (both Epson's) came with an application provided by Epson that work with Acrobat. The first one also came with SilverFast and I upgraded it to the full version for the increase flexibility and quality, but I use it for Photographs and in conjunction with Photoshop.
I am sorry to hear that neither of the programs that came with your scanner let you scan into Acrobat.
