Hi, I have the current SilverFast Ai Studio with the Epson V700 Pro. I have some old family photos (reflective prints - negatives are not available) that I have the chance to scan once and need to make sure that I get the best results possible. Later I will edit them in Lightroom or Photoshop to make the right file sizes and types from printing, emailing etc.
However for now I need the best quality scan, size is not an issue. I have done some test scans at 600ppi and 1200ppi and notice the 1200ppi shows up fine details better. I also ran the SRD and it seems to do a good job at removing some of the marks without losing details. I was scanning at 48 bit HDR.
Are there any other settings or options that I can select to make a better archival scan? Optimal settings?
Should I edit the colour tones / balance and the histogram dialogue (RGB levels) in SilverFast or is it better to leave it for later editing?
Any other tips would be great!
Many thanks,
Leon

Re: Scan Prints for Archive
Dear Leon,
unfortunately there is no "best-setting for every scan". Each picture needs its own setting depends of its usage.
It is recommend to set the b/w points in the histogram and to make a scan in 48bit if you want it edit with Photoshop.
Best regards
