Problem with Windows Photo Gallery and Silverfast

Postby rbebeau » Tue Aug 18, 2009 6:10 pm

Hoping for some suggestions: I've just started using Silverfast Ai Studio 6.6.1 with my Epson V700, primarily for scanning slides. After using the IT8 color calibration feature, Ive encountered a problem. The scans look great, color-wise, when I edit them in Photoshop, and even when viewed with the Olympus Master software I use with my digital camera. But in Windows Photo Gallery, the scans all display with a very pronounced pink cast. The pink cast is even there on the background, outside the area of the scan. The scans look normal when shown as large icons, but not when viewed properly. The problem exists only with scans made with Silverfast -- I've scanned the same slides directly with the Epson software, and they look fine, whether in Photoshop or Windows Photo Gallery. In looking through file characteristics, I cannot find anything different between the sets of scans. Would appreciate any guidance on whether this problem is typical, and if so, what to do about it. Rene

Dear Customer,

I think that a wrong display ICC profile is responsible for this behaviour.
Please Check the following Microsoft FAQ entry:

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, adjusting the monitor settings per the guidance didn't correct the problem. The guidance mentioned that there could be an incorrect color profile embedded in the photo. Any suggestion on how to check for this? Could I have embedded something of this sort when doing the color calibration with Silverfast? Thanks again. Rene

Dear Customer,

If only the Windows Photo Gallery shows a strange colorcast and the other programs show the picture correctly than it must be related to the profile Windows Photo Gallery is using.
If other programs also show the same colorcast please tell me. Maybe another user experienced the same problem with Windows Photo Gallery ?
best regards,
