After years of fairly successful use, Silverfast Ai suddenly crashes every time I try to scan. I can Preview, but scanning causes a crash. The crash occurs with both the Standalone and the Photoshop plugin.
Details:
Silverfast Ai v6 : SFE-6.4.4r7a(EpsonIT8)
Using an Epson Expression 1680 via Firewire
Mac OSX 10.4.8
Photoshop CS2
I get a Kernel Failure (I have saved the crash report and can send this to anyone who can help - I don't understand these things)
I tried trashing Silverfast Launcher + prefs and re-installing but this does not help.
Previous problems: The Silverfast plugin used to crash Photoshop CS and I stopped using it there, preferring to use the standalone to do multiple scans. After installing the latest version of Ai (as above) it worked again in Photoshop (for a day!!!) but also crashes now.
More strange things:
In the Standalone, I used to have the options of scanning in Normal or Normal (File) or Batch Mode or Batch Mode (File). I still have those 4 options with the Photoshop plugin, but in the standalone, I now only have 2: Normal (File) or Batch Mode (File). ?? Where have these options gone? Before the crashes started (yesterday), Silverfast Standalone seemed to scan okay but created a file of only 4k in size, which contained no data.
Any help would be appreciated.

Dear Crayon,
Please delete the LaserSoft Imaging folder (while SF isn't running)
On a typical Mac OS X installation, the " LaserSoft Imaging " folder is to be found at:
/ User / (your username) / Library / Preferences / LaserSoft Imaging
Please check now whether this does improve the situation or not. In the case that the error still exsist please fill out our support form:
http://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html
Using SilverFast via Photoshop you have 4 possibilities to scan:
Normal >> the scan will be transferred to Photoshop
Normal ( File ) >> the scan will be saved at your hard disc
BatchMode >> the scanns will be transferred to Photoshop
BatchMode( File ) >> the scans will be saved direct at yout hard disc.
Using SilverFast by using the Launcher you will have only two posbilities:
Normal ( File ) >> the scan will be saved direct at your hard disc
BatchMode( File ) >> the scans will be saved direct at yout hard disc.
