Dear LSI,
I have purchased your version 6 software with the printer profiler. I tried to make profiles for my Canon ipf9000 printer, but your software obviously does not support more than CMYK printers. The profiles were not at all accurate. I tried it on an Epson printer with the traditional CMYK inkset and it worked fine. With all the new printers beginning to add additional colors of ink, I assumed you would have considered this before releasing this product. Do you have plans of upgrading this product to support the new printers on the market and if so when? Thank you.

Any timeframe available yet on an upgrade to the current printer profiler?

Re: Printer Profiler
I downloaded the new version of the printer profiler which added the profile editor. This is great for neutralizing a slight color cast. A brightness, contrast and saturation control would also be helpful for profiles slightly off in these areas. Still waiting for ability to profile printer with more than CMYK inkset. Is this still in the works? And, if so, when can I look forward to this update? Thank you.

Re: Printer Profiler
Dear Rick,
our printer profiling (and editing) results in printer RGB ICC profiles.
Any printer whose printer driver takes RGB data can be profiled,
but the RGB to CMYK (and additional colors) conversion cannot be influenced on.
Best regards
Martin

Re: Printer Profiler
In my experience the best results are achieved by allowing the desktop printers to do the RGB to CMYK conversions. The only time it makes real since to adopt a CMYK workflow is when you work with a commercial printer and in that case they are able to provide you with profiles for their printers.
Hope this helps!

Re: Printer Profiler
Dear LSI,
The Canon IPF9000 is handled as an RGB device. All the new fine art printers are adding additional colors of ink. Canon and HP have already done it and Epson is including Orange and Green ink on the new 7900 and 9900 printers. Some of the desktop Epson printers have added Red and Blue inks already like the R800 which the profiler does not make an accurate profile for. I have tried profiling this printer also with unsatisfactory results. It is apparent that the entire industry is moving towards the addition of more colors of ink to achieve a larger color gamut. Your profiler will be obsolete very soon if it can not handle what is already the state of the art in fine art printers. Also, to be clear, I am not using a CMYK workflow, everything is handled as RGB in order to maximize the gamut potential of the printer.

Re: Printer Profiler
Dear Rick,
SilverFast's printer calibration is a low cost solution for medium priced printers where the internal printer color management can be disabled. Otherwise the printers own color management will always interfere with our calibration.
Our printer calibration is strictly limited by only using the standard RGB printer driver of the relevant printer. The printer driver itself is the limiting factor, as it will decide how the RGB-color space will be separated into CMYK and the extra colors.
Can you please make sure, when using SilverFast's printer calibration, that the internal printer color mangement is switched off?
Conclusion: The extra color should not be a problem for our calibration and profiling process as long as the whole process is not influenced by unknown internal functions that cannot be switched off!
So please check your printer settings and whether you can assure the internal printer color mangement is switched off during SilverFast's printer calibration!
best regards

Re: Printer Profiler
I was just upgrading from V6.4 to 6.6 with printer profiler when I noticed a box that said it wouldn't work with laser printers. Why not? I actually have a Xerox Phaser 8500 wax printer, not a laser printer. Will it work with this? I'm not expecting miracles (I have an inkjet printer when I want good prints - I use the wax printer for quick prints on standard paper). Should I upgrade to the version with printer profiler for the purpose of profiling my Xerox 8500, or would I be wasting my money?
Thanks,
Gary

Re: Printer Profiler
Dear Gary,
I would say that the Phaser is something between a Laserprinter and an inkjetpriner, so we really can not tell how our calibration does perform on this device.
As we do not have a Solid Ink Phaser we have not tested it yet .
