Prefs location and file names version 6.4.2rd AI

Postby Harry Putnam » Mon Nov 07, 2005 9:37 pm

Group, I had a odd thing happen maybe odd only because I'm not that familiar yet with silverfast. But after reading in the manual how to batch process scans I found out I could do my work a bit easier that way since most of what I have to do right now involved 35mm or smaller prints.

To cut to the chase: I selected several frames, making settings in each as I went and saving them. I used the left mouse as one would to start a new frame around a print but something different happened.

I'm not sure now what else I'd done in the meantime. But this time the drag created a persistent marquee that I could not get rid of. A mall oblong of marching ants. A rescan didn't remove it. It had no number as other frames display.

Completely closing and restarting didn't remove it. And finally I uninstalled then completely deleted the silverfast_AI directory under
C:\Program Files\lasersoft\

On reinstall it was gone. But something strange was still there, all the frame names I'd saved were still present under Setting: drop down list.

So where was this info saved. I had competely deleted any prf files under the main directlory. And even now I don't see the prf and prfx files I used to see there.

Right now as I write this I find a Prefs directory but inside is only:
Desktop.ini and PrefsFolder.ico. No prefs files at all. So where is it being saved?

Dear Harry

looks like you're on a Windows box. The prefs folder is located e.g. on XP at: C:\Documents and Settings\(your username)\Application data\Lasersoft Imaging\SilverFast\

The directory "prefs" can safely be deleted when SilverFast isn't running.

You probably just created another scan marquee frame with maximum size. The active (i.e. which changes made in the settings are applied to) scan marquee frame is the one which the 'marching ants' appearance.
To get rid of such one, there's a button on the vertical icon bar on the preview window.

Best regards

Egad, this is really dopey. I've been failing to notice that the address given for windows isn't under Program Files. However there is a directory under there in lazerimaging called prefs.

OK, deleting the right prefs is doing wonders toward bringing things into line again.

A few other posts of mine recently have suffered from this same oversite.

At least now I'm able to get a full restart when things go wrong.
Thanks for your patience.
