I've been unsuccessful at scanning under OS 10.2.2 on a Polaroid SS4000 with SF6.0.1r25. Problems exist with the Photoshop 7.0 plug-in and the SF_app.
While the overview function works fine, any attempt to do a preview scan results in about 3-4 minutes worth of moving the slideholder in and out until it all goes silent and apparently hangs. With PS, I must reboot the system to recover; with SF_app, I can kill the application. In my last attempt, SF_app caused the scanner to "swallow" the slideholder (not sure how I'm going to get it out yet).
Help!
Thanks...ajv
Polaroid Sprintscan 4000 SF 6.0.1 r25 on OS 10.2.2: hangs
Moderator: LSI_Moeller
I tried the SS 4000 with a SCSI connection (not the SS 4000+) on Jaguar and I could not detect any problem with the autofocus: it is quite slow, as usual (about one minute before the prescan or the scan starts).
My configuration is:
SF E 6.0.1r25
Mac OS 10.2.2
G4 733 MHz
SCSI ACARD AEC 6712TUM
If you have the same problem with the autofocus during the final scan, you can try the original software and check if a similar problem occurs:

I've installed the Polaroid Insight software and the source of the problem has become very clear: my Adaptec 2930 SCSI adapter. Using Polaroid's software, I get kernel faults which require a system reboot whenever the software attempts to communicate with the scanner. This is supposedly a very well known problem with the source being Adaptec's drivers.
Interesting that Ai 5.5 works ok on my system (though sometimes batch scans do not always complete). I can only assume that Adaptecs bugs manifest themselves in different ways with different applications.
Looks like I need to shell out $50 for a new SCSI card (word on the street is that it be first quarter of 2003 before Adaptec releases a new driver).
Thanks for the help...ajv
