PDF Compression

Postby mgilvey » Wed Dec 13, 2006 1:49 am

SILVERFAST AI 6.5

I just tried Ai 6.5 and I don't see any way to compress the PDF that is produced. That is bad news as it is necessary to scan documents at a high resolution, 300 dpi or so, to be able to read the text with any clarity.

What I used to do is scan at 300 dpi, save as a tiff and save out of Photoshop as a PDF with a compression of 2. This makes a really nice small file and it is VERY legeble.

The other problem I see is I can't save a PDF out of Ai 6.5 in greyscale.

Please add this compression feature to a future version.

One more thing, those of us with el-cheapo scanners would like to make use of the buttons that are on them for doing a SCAN, COPY or EMAIL preset. Can you add that as well?

With commin release r5 the jpg compression is used for images in PDF's. Also 8bit gray is allowed to be saved as PDF.

The buttons will not be supported by us in near future. This are fixed to the button managers of the manufactor.

kind regards,
