Novice User Questions

I have thirty years worth of negatives that I am planning on scanning. I have a Plustek 8200i scanner. I have downloaded Ai Studio and HDR Studio. I want to make sure that I am on the right track before I do a lot of scanning. This is what I have done so far.

1. I opened the workflow pilot in the Ai Studio Software to scan the negative. I selected the 64bit HDRi RAW output and the task was archive.
2. I selected the dpi and negafix selections for film vendor/type/ISO.
3. I named the file and selected TIFF. What is DNG? Should I use it? It created a file that looked like a negative and was 35 meg large.
4. I opened the workflow pilot in the HDR Studio Software to process the scanned file. I selected 48 to 24 bit output and the task was color re-saturation.
5. I selected my TIFF file and used the default settings. This created a TIFF file that was a positive and was 13 meg large. This is what I want.

My objective is to scan as many negatives as quickly as I can. I will do any adjustments of color later. That is why I chose the 64bit HDRi RAW format after seeing your video on the Silverfast website. Am I doing it right?

I am assuming that I need both the Ai studio to scan the negative and the HDR Studio to reconstitute the image. Many of the features are the same. I believe that the advantage of the 64bit HDRi RAW format is that I can do adjustments later. Is this correct?

Is there anything that I can be doing simpler? I have a lot of negatives and any suggestions could save me a lot of time. Thanks.

Dear Roger,

You are making all things correct :-)
The only thing to make your workflow faster is to use another scanner with a slide feeder.
