New scanner - new license ??

What happens if the scanner I purchased the Silverfast software for breaks down or I want to replace it with a new better model: do I have to buy a new lincense? Does the software that I downloaded have information embedded about the type of scanner it was purchased for?
It obviously can't be true, but I had to ask this question just to be sure.

Versions of SilverFast are scanner make/model specific. You should contact LaserSoft sales to see if you may get a version for your new scanner for a discount or free.
