Hi there,
Just new to this forum (+ SilverFast) and I already have a question :-)
I recently upgraded to SilverFast 6.6.0.r3a and have a Reflecta DigitDia 5000. I wonder how I can control the batch processing of portrait and landscape slides. It does not work as I want it to.
I'd like to create two fixed frames, one for portrait and one for landscape slides.
My process so far looks like follows
1) Created two frames and saved each as "Landscape" and "Portrait"
2) I also saved the Frame set under a nice name
3) When I select the portrait frame and start the batch processing, all slides get scanned in the right orientation but only the portrait slides get the right frame. The landscape slides have a different frame than the one I saved (I noticed this since the rotation I set was missing).
4) When I select the landscape frame and start the batch processing, all landscape slides are scanned with the desired frame but now all portrait slides get cropped by the landscape frame and contain strange color stripes left and right outside of the slide.
I also tried it with the new auto-frame feature but this does not work for me when the slide borders cannot be detected properly (i.e. when dark colors appear at the borders).
I would appreciate if someone could provide some hints or a cookbook on how to set individual landscape and portrait frames in batch mode.
Thanks a lot in advance
Erbo

Dear Erbo,
we have traditionally very many questions about sldiescanners like the Reflecta Digitdia, so we collected all important iformation about the workflow in a very good tutorial.
Please download it and I think it will answer your question:

Re: Need help on batched Portrait and Landscape Frames
Hi Thomas,
Thanks a lot for the prompt reply.
I already downloaded the mentioned documentation before I sent this email to the forum but could not find an answer to my problem.
As indicated in my email, I have problems to use fixed frames in batch mode and would like to understand how I can do this by using the "Landscape" and "Portrait" settings.
My understanding is that when I create two new frames using the mouse and save it under "Landscape"/"Portrait" pull down menus, respectively, these should be used in batched mode. But this does not work with my SilverFast version (Windows).
In contrast, there seems to be a dependency on which frame I have selected when I activate the batch mode scan.
May be its just my misuse of the software but I suspect a bug here.
I can provide some screen shots if this would help to explain my issue better.
Thanks again for further hints.
Erbo

Dear Erbo,
I have just doublechecked it and all you have to do is to select auto dectection in the horizontal and vertical frame setting and when starting the Batch Scan SilverFast will find the correct rotation automatically.

I meet with the same problem.
For instance, when a slide in portraitform is scanned, the sensitivity of the Silverfast program is not high enough to discover the exact dimensions of the picture. So a portrait-slide-scan may end in a square picture instead of a vertical portrait, when the upper- or lower side of the picture is relatively dark.
I wonder if it possible to lower the threshold Silverfast uses to discover the border of the slide.

Dear Peter,
If you are getting a square image, you are probably using an older Version of SilverFast.
Current versions select the portrait frame if they can not detect the slide orientation correctly.
Could you please check if you can get an update from our website.
kind regards
Arne Ketelhohn
