Multi-Sampling vs Multi-Exposure

Greetings,

After reading your latest news about Multi-Sampling, I'd like to know more about how it compares to the Multi-Exposure function. What are the advantages/differences of each? Is one better than the other? Is there a case for using them together, or just one or the other?

Dear Greg,

Multi-Sampling makes many scans of the same picture and then calculates an average, in that way all the " aberrant pixels" known as noise will be elliminated.

Multi-Exposure makes only two scans, the first at a normal speed, the second at up to 4 times slower (hardware dependent), the second scan will overexpose the picture, so noise is not generated in the dark areas, at the same time revealing much more details, this two scans are combined, the resulting file is not only noise free but with an improved dynamic range.

As you can see they both are different approaches to the same problem but Multi-Exposure also increases the dynamic range.

Is important to know that not all scanners support Multi-Exposure, this is a hardware feature which is not present in all scanner models, please check our scanner list to see if your scanner supports this feature, the list can be found at:

Are you saying that MultiExposure is using a "dark frame" technique to identify hot pixels in the CCD element ?
