Hello there,
I've just purchased Ai Studio 8.5 for my new scanner, and while watching an online video (not from your website) that was made with 8.0 I think,
I noticed that there were 2 features missing from my GUI :
- in SDR, the possibility to correct both nlack AND white defects
- the GANE tool
the second one may not be that important to me (I never tried it actually), but since I'm scanning very old photographs (from the 20's/30's/40's), I really need to remove as much scratches and dust as possible while scanning (to reduce the ampunt of post-processing)
But I can't find a way to correct both kind of defects (black and white), as was shown in the video I saw.
Is there still a way to do that ?
Regards
Laurent

Re: Missing Features in Ai 8.5
Dear Laurent,
Are you maybe using a scanner in reflective mode?
The GANE tool is only available for transparencies.
In the SRD expert settings you can create up to for layers with different settings.
Each layer can also have it's own mask to limit the correction to a certain area.
This way you can correct the black errors in one layer and the white ones in another.
You can also correct different areas with different values this way.
This gives better results than the correction of both at the same time, which is why that option was removed.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Re: Missing Features in Ai 8.5
Hello Arne,
many thanks for your answer.
Yes I was working in reflective mode, I didn't know that Gane was only availble for transparent media. I'll try it when I start to scan my negatives.
And OK about the SRD layers, now I understand that icon (I already applied masks), and this is indeed a much better and more flexible way to do things.
I might now even re-scan some of the photographs I already did !
Thank you so much. I'm really enjoying the software !
Regards,
Laurent
