Mid-pip: active or not?

I would be grateful if someone could enlighten me on the function of the Mid-Pip icon within the Options menu.

1. What happens when I change the value?
2. What is the difference between not checking and checking the active icon?

MidPip (Neutralizing tool) in SilverFast

1. When changing the MidPip value under option only does not do anything yet. Clicking into the image with the MidPipette neutrlizes the poit you click on. After then double-clicking on the tool brings up a dialog where you can change the RGB/CMY source and destination values.

2. When checking the active icon the MidPip tool will set (neutralize) the point you click on to exactly that value. Again double-clicking on the tool brings up a dialog where you can change the RGB/CMY source and destination values.

Please let me jump in with the question of WHAT the MidPip tool actually does: Neither the histogram nor the gradation curves change after neutralizing single areas of the picture. It does not effect any traceable alterations to the detailed matrix of color values in the expert dialog, either.

The global color correction tool alters the gradation curves of single color channels. What does the MidPip tool do?

Update: In the meantime, I have noticed that the MidPip operations ARE reflected in the small, non-editable curves diagram in the expert dialog. Obviously, the MidPip tool does alter single color channels very much the same way it is possible to alter them in the main gradation curves tool. Is that right?

So the question is: Why does the main gradation dialog, after applying the MidPip tool, NOT reflect exactly the current curves of the single color channels? This is hard to understand ...
