Kodachrome and IT8 calibration
Hello, I'm using Silverfast Ai IT8 6.6.0r4c in a Minolta Dimage Scan Multi Pro. I have Kodak, Fuji and Kodachrome IT8 targets. I scanned all 3 targets and when I tried to scan Kodachrome film, I found that on the "General" tab the "Pos/Neg" selector would only show "Postive" or "Negative" and "Kodachrome" would be grayed out. So I re-scanned the Kodachrome target, and it popped up. While experimenting with Job Manager, the "Kodachrome" selection is grayed out again. Also, under "Profiles for Colorsync" and "input," I have these "SF_K (Minolta DSM Pro).bak and "SF_T(Minolta DSM Pro)" files under the CMS settings. And one that says "SF_K (Minolta DSM Pro)." Which is kodak and which is kodachrome? Do I have to select these when I scan Kodak or Kodachrome or Fuji?

Re: Kodachrome and IT8 calibration
Dear Customer,
the ICC profiles SilverFast creates are named like this:
SF_R ICC profiles starting like this are for reflective scaning and created usind reflective targets here it does not matter which the target manufacturer is either Kodak or Fuji targets will create a SF_R profile
SF_T profiles starting like this are for reflective scaning and created usind transparency targets that are not Kodachrome here it does not matter which the target manufacturer is either Kodak or Fuji targets will create a SF_T profile
SF_K is the latest addition and it is only used for Kodachrome targets
SilverFast should automatically select the propper ICC profile for the mode you selected, if such a profile exists.

Re: Kodachrome and IT8 calibration
Thank you for your response. I've actually contacted your tech support and they are investigating the matter. Yes, Silverfast should automatically select the correct calibration (Positive, Negative or Kodachrome) but despite following all the directions, and being walked through process with tech, the Kodachrome selection still stays greyed out. It's bumming me out, man.

Dear Customer,
I also have seen this behaviour in some rare occasions but in the next update of SilverFast it will be fixed.

Re: Kodachrome and IT8 calibration
Just ordered SF AiStudio 6.6 with IT8, arrived today and started to go through the calibration procedure, the IT8 target positive is a Kodak Ektachrome 35mm positive. After following the step by step procedure ( after making the necessary mods in the options box prior to the first prescan) I do not have an option to save the profile..
A few questions:
1. After "calibration was successful" window there is no option to save or name a profile, what am I missing?
2. IT8 balance scale icon still remains grey out after calibration, should I be selecting positive instead of Kodachrome in the film type dialogue box?
3. How do I know I have AiStudio and not just Ai version?
4. To correctly scan reversal stock, positve negs and b&w negs do I need individual targets to create profiles for scanning each type of film stock correctly, or will one target such as the one I have suffice for calibrating the scanner to the software/monitor etc?
My System specs:
Scanner: Nikon LS50/ COOLSCAN V ED
Software: SF Ai IT8 Studio 6.6
Target: 35mm Kodak Ektachrome E070103
Operating System: Windows XP Pro running Photoshop 7
Thankyou
Lightgate

Re: Kodachrome and IT8 calibration
Dear Lightgate,
1. you can enable this by ticking the "custom icc profile name" box in the SilverFast settings on the Auto tab.
2.We do offer Kodachrome targets separately, they will be needed to create custom Kodachrome profiles.
3. when clicing on the info button you can see the version you got
the SilverFast logo should also say SilverFast Ai Studio
4. you would just need a Kodachrome and a "normal" target as we use NegaFix for negs.
I hope I could help you
