Job Manager

Postby cglaeser » Sun Dec 21, 2008 9:48 am

I don't yet understand a couple of issues related to the job manager.

1. What is the purpose of the dialog box to save the job manager? What is being saved, and how do you open it again?

2. When multiple negatives are loaded into a film holder, I understand the steps to scan multiple negatives, but once those negatives are scanned and more negatives are loaded into the film holder, assuming that the negatives are in the identical location and I want to reuse the same settings, what are the steps to scan the second batch? If I click "Start", nothing happens, apparently because the Job Manager thinks those negatives have already been scanned. Do I close and reopen the Job Manager? It seems like a lot of extra steps to scan multiple sets of images. What is the shortest workflow to scan multiple sets of negatives?

Best,
Christopher

Dear Christopher,

1.
purpose of the save button is to save whole jobs, like "scan all slides to photo size" or "scan upper slides to web images" or the like, so if you have re-occuring jobs you can just create them for faster usage later...

2. You are right, once the job was executed you have to reset it to rerun it.
Once run they show a green "LED" in the bottom right of each entry...
To reset, you can use right click and "reset status", maybe with selecting all jos first using the rightmost button in the jobmanager...

To partly answer your workflow question:
It very much depends on what you want to do precisely, how much individual image adjustment you want to do, or do you rely on automatic or on fixed settings.
You may just need the normal batch mode and not the job manager and/or to save the prepared frames in the general settings...

How do I reuse them later? I'm guessing when I open the Job Manager, I have an option to open a previously saved Job, but I don't see where this is done.

Thanks! FWIW, a Rest button on the Jobs Manager panel would make this feature more obvious, but this will work for now.

Understood. Let's suppose I need to scan a dozen batches of negatives that are relatively similar and I'm using automatic settings. Will it make a difference if I prescan each batch? Or, do I just scan each batch once I am happy with the first batch?

Best,
Christopher
