IT8 Targets again

Postby Daltont » Fri Nov 14, 2003 8:39 pm

Another stupid question. more than one actually! But I won't buy if I don't have an answer!

1. When you buy the Calibration sw you get one free target. But WHICH target is included with the purchase?
2. Once calibrated with one target, does the scanner (Epson in my case) have to be calibrated with other targets for other image types one intends to scan? Or does one calibration do it for the Silverfast sw?
Basically, if I want to scan 4x5 photos and 35mm slides, do I need to buy a specific target for EACH image type??

Thank you. I emailed the support, but no one answered yet and I am ready to purchase if I can figure out WHAT I need to purchase!!
BTW, I have the Silverfast AI 6 that came with my Epson 3200 Pro.

You will need a target for the reflective media and another for the slides. Usually one or the other is included when you order IT8 from Lasersoft. i thought the EPSON Pro version included IT8 calibration with the included Monaco Ez ? You will at least have a reflective target. You can create the calibration profile with Monaco and use it for the CMS with Silverfast. Look under Options>CMS . Also, take a look at Ian Lyon's tutorials for how to configure Silverfast.
www.computer-darkroom.com
Otherwise you can order the IT8 option and targets for the EPSON 3200 from Silverfast. If the Monaco target is a std Kodak target, it will work with Silverfast calibration utility.

Thanks for your help Frank.

Actually, as I am overseas at the moment, I had ordered but not received the Epson 3200 Pro; I'll be there in 3 weeks. I wanted to order the targets as Epsons site didn't mention it included the Calibration SW or a target! THANK YOU!! You just saved me some major cash!!
I have limited time to scan numerous family pictures/slides for an family photo archive (gifts!) and wanted to have everything there for the holidays when I will be visiting my family.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you don't seem positive about the inclusion, so if anyone else knows FOR CERTAIN, I'd really appreciate a follow-up. In the meantime I will check the Epson site again and/or email them directly, but don't know how prompt they are with responses. Of course I'll post the Epson response/findings here.
Thanks again!

Monaco EZcolor? Software and IT8 Targets

Postby Daltont » Sat Nov 15, 2003 9:52 am

OK, I had been considering just the PHoto version as opposed to the Pro which has the full version SW, so perhaps that's how I missed it. Plus I had no knowledge of what scanner calibration meant/involved. On a major learning curve here.
On Epson's 'In the box' page, they say 'Monaco EZcolor(tm) Software and IT8 Targets' is included. This seems ot indicate more than one target is included!. I will email them to see which targets are actually included.
Thanks again Frank!
I told you it was a stupid question.and apprecitate your help and suggestions!.
