iT8 Calibration

Postby jc2d » Wed Mar 24, 2004 9:27 pm

When I tried to use iT8 calibration with Silverfast Ai 6 on my Microtek 1800f, I can't find the reference file. Its a Kodak Q60 transmissive target which came with the scanner and software. I've looked in the reference file folders and the downloads on this website, but don't see any file names that match info on the target.
I'd be grateful if someone could tell me where I'm going wrong.
Thanks.

If you do not find the reference data file on the Silverfast site, follow the link on the same page to the Kodak ftp site and look in r1-data or r2-data for your reference file. Here is the direct link:

ftp://ftp.kodak.com/GASTDS/Q60DATA/

You are looking for a file that matches the code on the target.

Thanks for your advice Frank. I actually resolved the issue myself and forgot to post. I'll have further queries as time goes on as I'm just getting to grips with my new scanner and software. The first that springs to mind is setting up the colour management settings correctly. I'm using a Colorvision spyder with Photocal to profile my monitor, so would I be right in thinking that the Internal - Monitor setting should be 'none' as the monitor is profiled externally?

I'll keep trying till I get this perfect, but have to say my initial efforts are looking pretty good.

Thanks,

John.

Take a look at Ian Lyon's tutorials on CMS settings for Silverfast.

www.computer-darkroom.com

And his Silverfast tutorials will give you a good jump on the learning curve.

I'm on a Mac and I use the SF Launcher app rather than Photoshop. my CMS settings for calibrated film scanning are:

ColorSync
ColorSync
RGB

everything works great.

older versions of SF had a Calibrated choice. this is no longer there and I think it's a good way to go. Calibration now saves the IT-8 calibration result as a ColorSync profile in the user's Preferences/ColorSync/ folder and every application can see/use it. everything's simpler ;-)

to improve color matching though, I calibrated my Apple LCD monitor using a great little shareware app called SuperCal. the resulting ColorSync profile is pretty accurate. I also keep the monitor's brightness at only 50% to better match the brightness of the printed output. if only paper could glow, photos would look so much nicer ;-)

regards
Gregory
