IT8 Calibration Epson 750

Postby isolomon » Mon Mar 30, 2009 10:19 pm

I had no problem using a calibration card I bought from you when I installed 6.5 on a 32 bit machine.
I just downloaded the new version which supports 64bit (Vista Home Premium). I found the card and clicked on the IT8 button. It went through the process and came out with terrible results. The colors are far too bright and saturated.
I get much better color with the Epson software.
Also when I click on the plane the Pilot pops up as a small rectangle but I can't get it to do anything.

I apologize if this problem has been mentioned before but your search engine refused to accept "calibration" as too common a word. :-?

Dear Customer,
could you please tell me the average delta-e value you get from SilverFast after calibration ?
Please note that IT8 targets need to be exchanged every 2 years or so in order to retain maximum accuracy.

The delta is 1.4.
I tried to upload the scan so you could see the colors, but you only allow 256 KB and the best I could get it down to was 1.3 Megs.
If you can send me an email address that would allow it I would send you the picture.
Thanks.

Dear Customer,

a delta e of 1.4 is very good so the problem must be somewhere else. Please get in touch with our techsupport via our support assistant as xou would be able to submit screen shoots there and we can handle your request faster.

Yesterday I got similar issues after upfrading to the latest SF for Epson V750 - My scanner was originally calibarted back in March and still using Vista 32, I have since re-calibarrted with a delta of 0.8, my transparency target is under one year old.
With expermentaion I think I CMS settings are causing these issues, here is my workflow.

I calibarted with the following settings
Color management

Input->Internal "None"
Internal->Monitor" None"
Internal->Output "RGB"

Profiles

Input "None"
Internal "None"
Grey "None"
Output "None"
Rendering "Perceptual"

Everything gows fine, Then I set
Color management

Input->Internal "ColorSync/ICM"
Internal->Monitor "ColorSync/ICM"
Internal->Output "RGB"

Profiles

Input "Esposn SFT Profile name"
Internal "colorspace - ProPhotoRGB"
Grey "None"
Output "None"
Rendering "Perceptual"

And Embed ICC profile = "ProphotoRGB"

The scane come out verybright and reddish, however if I change the Input->Internal "None" inb]Color management [/b], I get better colors, somehow these two optins are doing something very strange with color management.

Any ideas
Issa

Dear Issa,

Can you pelase tell if your previous calibration had proper quality ?

the "DeltaE" value which is given upon completion of an IT8 calibration performed within SilverFast informs you about how accurate the mathetical CMS model generated (read: scanner input profile) will be able to reproduce colour values scanned from the IT8 chart compared to the values given in the according reference file.
The standard deviation is better, the lower it is and usual should not differ much between to subsequient IT8 calibration scans.

You can see this for yourself with help of SilverFast's densitometer tool.
Clicking on the arrow(s) in the lower part of the densitometer until it will show LAB colour values.
Now hover your mouse cursor over a colour patch of the IT8 chart and compared it to the LAB values given in the according reference file.

The reference file is to be found
Windows:
\Program Files\SilverFast Application\SilverFast [Version]\SilverFast\IT8 Reference Files

have you tried it with a different colorspace than ProPhotoRGB, maybe sRGB or AdobeRGB ?

Hi

Delta 0.7 - I don't as much of a problem with Adobe RGB, however there is still a small issue, if I set input-internal to none and emed the scanner profile instead of the working RGB that is in Photoshop, and I convert in photoshop to either prophot or Adobe RGB, I don't have any problems. It is only when I do this in silverfast.

Now working as expected - display and output colours don't change when I set input->internal ICM and choose Prophoto or Adobe RGB.

I deleted the prefernces and reset to default - then set up preferences again - no problem, something in the color management preferences got corrupted during the upgrade.

Happy again.

Thanks
