iSRD on Nikon Coolscan V ED

Postby Jazze » Thu Apr 16, 2009 7:05 pm

Hi,

Upgraded to Silverfast AI Studio to get the iSRD, (among other things), but discovered to my horror, that
I still only have the SRD button!

Has been browsing the forum and site trying to find out whats wrong with no luck.
Doesn`t the Coolscan V ED support the iSRD, it do support the wonderful ICE technology!?

I use Windows XP (profs.) and use the AI studio version 6.6, purchased/downloaded 16 April.

Best wishes

Jazze

Currently iSRD for this device is only available on Macs.

The Windows version stilluses the ICE library.

kind regards

I just bought a Nikon Coolscan V ED with SilverFastAI I have not much experience in scanning since before but its a lot of things that do not work with my program first and most anoying is that it dont seem to support the ICE system in the hardwear in my scanner wich the nikon scanning program do perfecly. Then i cant make the magnifier work so its impossible to se a deatail of the prescan but thats the same in my Nikon program I also think its wery hard to get the pictures focused. All of this is very annoying and I really would like to know if its me that cant operate the program or if it really dont have the support for ICE wich is a disaster.

Dear Mrs. Burman,
I assume you use a Mac, this would explain why you do not have the option to use ICE as we did a complete rewrite of the low level drivers for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard as it was not longer supported by the Nikon Maid Library as this also provided the ICE library which is owned by Kodak we decided to implement our Own iSRD http://www.silverfast.com/show/silverfast-isrd/en.html which has some major improvements over ICE. With ICE you basically just have the option to use it with the standard or the fine setting or to turn it off completely whith iSRD you are able to use a threshold Silder that you can adjust to your needs.

if you need more information feel free to ask

Thank you for your fast answer Maybe its just me who is really bad in using the scratch and dust function of silverfast but it just dont work it takes only away parts of obvious dust particles and if I higher the level to adjust that it gets red in a lot of parts where I dont want to adjust anyting, so the option seems to be no dust and no detail or partial dust everyvere strangely my nikon program with ice work wonderful and takes away all dust without ruin anyting else like magic. Clearly I could just give up and just use the nikon program but as a lot of people much more experienced than me in scanning says silverfast gives great pictures I dont want to give up so easy. Can you tell me somthing about the magnifier/zoom how do I do to make it work it would be really good to be able to zoom in to se how sharp and how much noise there is before I decide to scan.

Dear Greta,

it sound strange that the zoom is not working for you as it is supposed to. Please use our Service Dialogue to delete your preferences this might solve this mystery, if this does not help please contact our support team via the support assistant.
As I told you in my last post iSRD is for the most of our Customers better than ICE as you can adjust it to your needs, below I have some links with tutorials regarding iSRD we also have some movies showing exactly how to use it.

Dear Robert,

the current SilveFast Version for the Nikon LS 9000 offers iSRD in the Mac version and ICE on the Windows one.

You say iSRD is better than ICE, will this be available for Windows in the future? It seems Windows users are missing out in this case!

Thanks, Leon
