iSRD Feature in Silverfast 8

Can the iSRD feature be used for negatives or just for transparencies?

When you click on the iSD button, what is supposed to happen? Is the process automatic or do I have to scan again to get the dust and scratches removed.

Neither the book nor movie is very helpful on the process as to what to do.
