interface Elements with SE

Just starting. A newbie needs help to get going!

I bought a Plustek OpticFilm 7200i with Silverfast 6.5SE to work with my Photoshop Elements 5.0 on my Windows XP-HE computer.

There is something about a TWAIN 32 interface to get the pictures to go to the Photoshop catalog. I tried to load Silverfast saying "use Photoshop or Stand-alone". When I launch Photoshop, no dialog about importing Silverfast appears.

Thus, do I need to download a version of TWAIN 32 and then re-install Silverfast with the command to use SilverFast TWAIN?

What I want to do is scan and store slide images in the Photoshop catalog. Thus, is that possible with my software or do I have to use the SilvereFast Stand-Alone software and cataloging?

Dear Jake,

when using Photoshop Elements you should use the SilverFast Photoshop Plugin. This should work

Is the SilverFast Photoshop Plug-in something that I download from your website or buy??

I am not that impressed with the built-in editor for my Mom's old pictures as their color is washed out and I know I can bring it back some with the Photoshop that I am comfortable with. Thanks for the advice.

Dear Jake,

when you have registered your SilverFast software you can download the latest Version of SilverFast SE for Free as you already have a Version 6.5 this is entitled to a free upgrade for SilverFast 6.6 In Order to use it with PSE7 correctly you would need to install the Phothsop Plugin.

Thomas - I did register when I installed but was not given any choice on upgrade. How can I now do that?

Also, I am sorry to be obtuse but I do not understand where I get the Plug-In?? From your website? Also, I am using PSE 5, so will it work?

Sorry to be a pain but I am in for a long editing with my Mom's 10k slides!!

Dear Jake,

Photoshop Elements 5 is working with the latest Photoshop Plugin as well here is the direct link where you can load the update:

Please note you need at least SilverFast 6.5 in order to get the latest update if you got any earlier version you would need to upgrade to SilverFast 6.6 by purchasing an upgrade in our Store.

Thomas - thanks for the reply but I continue to have problems.

I have upgraded from 6.5 to 6.6 and chose the Photoshop option as I ran the program.

But I still do not see any way to launch Silverfast with Photoshop Elelments 5.0

As I start the Silverfast, I get only the stand-alone editing program and nothing that seems to lead to Photoshop Elements, even if I also start that program. Is there a step that i am missing or do i need to load something else?

Dear Jack,

when you installed SilverFast after Phothop Elements 5 you should be able to access SilverFast from within PSE5 Filme Menue-> Import ->SilverFast.
If SilverFast is not displayed their you would need to create a shortcut in the plugin directory of Photoshop the following, please ensure that Photoshop Elements is not running:

(1) Open your Windows Explorer
(2) Navigate to C:\Program files\SilverFast Application
(3) Locate the Photoshop plug-in (an .8ba) file, probably in the sub folder "SilverFast (Scannername)"
(4) Create a shortcut to the plug-in there (you might want to rename it (drop the "Shortcut to" at the filename's beginning).
(4.a) A shortcut is created by right-clicking the file and drawing the mouse cursor (while keeping the right mouse button pressed) to an empty space in the Windows' Explorer right panel.
(4.b) When you now release the right mouse button, a context menu will pop-up, select "Create shortcut".
(5) Right-click on the newly create shortcut and select "cut".
(6) Change directories to C:\Program files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5\Plug-ins\Import-Export\
(7) Right-click on the empty space in the right Explorer panel and select "paste" from the context menu.
