Hi, I was trying to upgrade to the latest SF AI (6.4.3r9). When running the installer, it freezes up at the very beginning when stating "Searching for Photoshop". I tried multiple times, even after restarting. I even tried deleting all traces of SF (application folder, plug-in reference, preferences) but still no luck. Now, unfortunately, I get the same behavior when trying to re-install the previous version (6.4.2).
My machine is a Dual G5 2Ghz w/ 1.5GB ram, running OSX 10.4.4. I have a straight-ahead install of Photoshop CS2. I also have a previous version of Photoshop CS, but it's never caused a conflict. As a test, I moved one of the Photoshop folders to the desktop temporarily. No change. Silverfast had been running fine in Photoshop before.
Installation freezes at beginning

Dear jethro
sure it wasn't just that SilverFast took some time searching for Photoshop because you have a lots of folders (and perhaps a couple of network drives) on your system?
However, you may choose to deselect the "install to Photoshop" option in the installer. The only thing it does with the more recent versions of SilverFast is to place an alias in /Applications/Photoshop/Plug-Ins/Import-Export to the SilverFast Photoshop plug-in which is in /Applications/SilverFast application/.
You can do so for yourself after SilverFast is installed. A fresh start of Photoshop will update the items shown on its File > Import menu and SilverFast will become listed there.
