ICE in SF8

Postby pike105 » Mon Aug 29, 2011 10:29 pm

What did you do, you removed ICE ?
Are you sure?
Hope I am dreaming.

Dear Pike105,
Dear SilverFast users,

ICE is a patented technology developed by Kodak. In previous versions of SilverFast some scanners had ICE included because the scanner manufacturers had special licensing to leave ICE as it was.
This licences do not have effect anymore in SilverFast 8, hence we could implement our own infrared dust and scratch correction technology iSRD.

Kind regards

"This licences do not have effect anymore in SilverFast 8, hence we could implement our own infrared dust and scratch correction technology iSRD." That is fine - but why "do the licenses have no effect anymore"? Do you think your iSRD is better or is it a matter of royalties?

Alejandro,

But what about scanners that you never have implemented iSRD for, like my Minolta 5400 II? I'll gladdly take iSRD over ICE if it is available for my Minolta! If not maybe I'd better stick with 6.6. Of course I may have to, if you never release ver. 8 for my scanner. :D

Hi there

There are many different types of licences, these were granted to the scanner manufacturers, some of those were mandatory for some scanners, even for third party applications.

Yes iSRD is better than ICE, even people from Kodak labs praised the level of control provided by iSRD. It is also important to make distinction, this kind of filters are not only dependent on the software but also on the quality offered by every device, some scanners have better infrared lamps and sensors than others.

We will try to implement iSRD with all scanners offering an accessible infrared channel.

O.K. - understandable: does it mean that in Silverfast 8 ALL scanners will have available iSRD even if the manufacturer does not deliver ICE? Does iSRD not use infrared technology?

That would be a VERY competitive advantage for Lasersoft.

Soory - just saw the answer in your latest reply: iSRD needs infrared!
