I may finally have to give up on Silverfast

Postby Alex Ramsay » Tue Apr 03, 2007 12:41 pm

I've pretty much come to the end of the road with Silverfast. I can, certainly, get good scans on occasion from it, with a lot of work (and usually more work in Photoshop). I have a large film archive to scan, much of which is interior pictures shot in available light. However I adjust the settings, the auto-adjust nearly always gives a horrible flat image with a reddish cast on these and other images. My monitor is calibrated, Silverfast settings are according to the recommendations, but it's just no good.

All I want is something that will give me a good result (or at least get me close) on the 'auto' setting. I appreciate the range of control SF offers, but life's too short to spend half an hour on each scan. I've unwillingly gone back to the Polaroid software that came with my scanner - not perfect, but it does produce scans that look something like my transparencies.

I'd be delighted to be proved wrong - anyone from Lasersoft is welcome to visit my studio and see the problem for themselves - but it really does look like the end of the road this time.

Dear Mr. Ramsey.

I am sorry to hear you are having such a dreadful experience. I would love to come to the UK and set up an efficient and color correct workflow with you but I doubt I would get an aprroval from our controlling :P But we have done something something like that before.

Let?s try the old fashion telephone call first. Pls contact me via my email (profile) and provide your phone number so I can call you back and solve the issue. I also have a skype adress under ICQ number in the profile.

Looking forward to your response.

JAN
