When scanning color negatives with my PrimeFilm XE (Reflecta ProSan 10T), the “Grain and Noise Elimination” feature has no visible effect, regardless of setting (light, medium or strong) or resolution (I tried scanning at 3600, 3000, 2400, and 1800 ppi). Some of my scans show considerable noise, even in correctly exposed photos. Small original prints from these negatives, from many years ago, don’t show such noise. I suspect some of the noise may be unavoidable, due to a simple point-and-shoot camera with mediocre film (for example, Fuji SuperHQ), and I might reduce it somewhat with a Photoshop plugin. However, has anyone successfully used the GANE feature on this model of scanner?
Thanks,
Marek

Re: GANE not working on PrimeFilm XE
Dear Marek,
The GANE tool only works on a low level to ensure it does not destroy any fine image contents.
We are planning on reworking this tool to allow a stronger correction.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.
