Dynamic Range Increase with Multi-Sampling

Postby MurrayFoote » Tue Nov 08, 2005 3:20 pm

In the most recent newsletter there is an item that says that AI Studio multi sampling increases DMax from 2.9 to 3.43 for a Nikon LS5000, from 3.06 to 3.33 for an Epson 4990 and from 2.75 to 3.56 for an Epson 3200.

How many passes is this at?

Is there more information on this somewhere?

Were other scanners tested such as the Canon 9950F?

Regards,
Murray Foote

Dear Murray.

We used an 8x multisampling for all of our tests.

The Canon was not tested yet but will follow.

We used a standardised procedure under ISO 21550:2004 Dynamic range measurements.

For more info you could got to the ISO webpage http://www.iso.org/iso/en/CombinedQuery ... ring=21550

Kind regards,

Jan

LSI_Rossee,

Does this imply that using 16x multisampling would further increase the DMAX?

Thanks!

under ideal condition, 1/2 bit increase.

Why there is no 8x multisampling in SF Ai v6 for Nikon Coolscan LS30? Only 2x, 4x and 16x.

Jan

Thank you for your response to my query. I did find it somewhat disconcerting though, that the link you pointed me to requested that I pay 75 units of an unknown currency (Swiss Francs perhaps?) before I could read anything. Is there any further free information available? (At the very least it would be interesting to know what the measured DMax was as well as the dynamic range).

Also, come to think of it, can you say anything about when you expect reults for the Canon 9950F? Would that also be in a forthcoming newsletter?

Regards,
Murray

Dear All,

generally 16 x multisampling will further decrease noise and increase dynamic range compared to 8x. In our tests we expereinced that the visual difference differs from scanner to scanner. Scanners with already low noise will gain more than scanners that already have a tendency to lots of noise.

We will also test whether there is a pottential issue with the Coolscan LS 30.

Test results with the Canon 9950F should become available this week.

Are the Canon 9950F results available yet? If so are they posted anywhere or is it a case of waiting for the next newsletter?

Also, will there any more detailed information available anywhere without having to pay for it as with the link you posted above?

Murray

Is the week up yet? ... And, if so where can one find results for the 9950F?

Has anyone tested Dynamic rang increase with a Mictoket i900.
Also my copy of SilverfastAI6 has an option for multi-sampling, which I thought one had to upgrade to AI studio to get.
