Dust/Scratch removal: HDRi 64-Bit vs. iSRD

Hello dear users and Lasersoft gurus,

I use Silverfast Ai to scan old "diafilms" (35-mm positive films for children). Some are 25-30 years old, reddish and scratched.

To remove defects, I use iSRD. Many defects remain, and I need to remove them manually in Photoshop Elements -- a very time-consuming job.

Now, I've read about HDRi 64-bit+iSRD option (http://www.silverfast.com/highlights/hdri/en.html). The picture of the resulting photo is great: all defects are gone.

Question: is there really such a big difference between iSRD and HDRi+iSRD combination? To save my time in manual processing, I'd rather buy Archive Suite (which includes HDRi). Should I?

the efficiency of iSRD is the same at Ai and HDR.
For best results you must figure out the values of "Detection", "Defect size" and "Intensity".
If you have this values you can use it in iSRD in HDR. The advantage of the ArchiveSuite is that you can scan your images in batch mode and after that you can edit it in batch mode (with iSRD). That saves time.

It's a bit tricky with "Detection" and "Defect size" values because I have all kinds of defects there: narrow, wide, long, short, etc. Need to use masks, I guess.

Anyway, I've recently upgraded from SF Ai to SF Archive Suite and keep trying to find the optimum workflow for my purposes. It's a pity that I cannot incorporate Kodak Dogital ROC (a Photoshop plug-in which helps me a lot to restore colors in these old 35-mm films) somewhere at the beginning of HDR processing. It' always easier to work with more or less correct colors.

Dear Yurar,

a alternative to the PhotoShop plugin is ACR (Adaptive Colour Restauration) in SilverFast. You will find it in the "Selective Color" dialog.
