DPI/LPI Mess

Postby bass » Tue Aug 05, 2003 1:51 pm

Hi!
I noticed that there is a mix of DPI and LPI measurements since version 6.0.1. The problem is, LPI is used to measure the Line frequency of an output device (i.e. commercial printer) and not the resolution of an image. There is a certain optimal ratio between DPI and LPI (DPI is usually about 1.5 to 2 of LPI). The point is, 85 DPI scanning resolution for newspaper quality and 133 for magazine quality is JUST NOT ENOUGH! 85/133 are the usual LPIs for newspaper/magazine printing, so the scanning resolution needed to print nwsppr/mgzn quality is at least 200/250.

Pls excuse me if this topic has been already discussed and/or the use of
LPIs is by purpose (?), but I was just wondering...

p.s. Breaking news :-) - Setting "Other" as an output resolution has no effect - the selection jumps back to "Magazine 133 dpi" even if I set 200DPI (This is after I upgraded to 6.02).

In SilverFast Ai the lpi/dpi is full implemented. In SilverFast SE all funktions are limited, it is meant for private use. For professional use you should use SilverFast Ai.

kind regards

I understand the limitations of the SE-version, but what we have here has nothing to do with limitations. The user is not limited in using any resolution, he/she is, in fact, mislead to use an improper one :-\\
I think it's mostly an interface (not functionality) problem :-)
best wishes!
