Downloading New Drivers and Manuals

Postby Confelicity » Wed Jan 18, 2006 5:34 pm

AS I'VE SAID, I'M NEW TO DIGITAL IMAGEING AND SILVERFAST. AND I'M ALREADY FRUSTRATED. (OH, I'VE UPGRADED TO AI STUDIO)
MY PROBLEM IS THAT I TRIED TO DOWNLOAD PROGRAM UPDATES AND MANUALS BUT EVERY ATTEMPT FAILED. I'VE DOWNLOADED MANY UPDATES AND MANUALS IN THE PAST FROM OTHER SOURCES WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS.

FOR THE PROGRAM UPDATES WHEN I TRY TO RUN THE DOWNLOADED FILE I GET THE MESSAGE "THE SETUP FILES ARE CORRUPT, PLEASE OBTAIN A NEW COPY OF THE PROGRAM." I TRY BUT EVER DOWNLOAD IS CORRUPT.

FOR THE MANUALS I FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE SCREEN AS CLOSELY AS MY SYSTEM WILL PERMIT. THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE THIS:
" 'RIGHT CLICK' ON A LINK AN SELECT 'DOWNLOAD TARGET' IN
YOUR BROWSER INSTEAD OF JUST CLICKING (OPEN) THE PDF
DOCUMENT."
HOWEVER, MY SYSTEM --WINXP-- DOES NOT HAVE THAT OPTION AFTER RIGHT CLICKING. I DO HAVE A "SAVE TARGET AS..." OPTION. IT DIDN'T WORK. NEITHER DID ANY OTHER OPTION ON THAT MENU.
THE MESSAGE I GOT WHEN I TRIED TO OPEN THE FILE: "FILE CORRUPT..."

SO, WHAT'S MY PROBLEM; WHY CAN I NOT GET ANY DOWNLOADS TO WORK FROM THIS SITE?
THANKS

Confelicity,

I recommend checking your computer for Spy/Malware and or Viruses. I use WINXP and don't have the problems you mention.

Whenever i get that sort of problem, i open my copy of OPERA browser and use its download. It has never failed me. Otherwise, it sounds like the ISP you are going though is having bandwidth problems and loosing packets.

Using another browser is a valid option as well, as degrub indicates, but I do believe there is something else causing the problem. I use IE and don't have this problem.

The bottom line is, there are other browser options, and you should check your computer for Spy/Malware/Viruses. In addition make sure you have all of the "Critical" MS updates installed.
