Custom Profiling

I'd like to create custom profiles for my scanner with my Gretag-Macbeth Monitor 2 program. Is there documentation on using 3rd party custom profiling tools? How do I turn off color management to scan my target and create a profile? How do I load and select the new profile? I want to use Adobe 1998 for I my workspace - where do I set it?

I'm new to SilverFast so please forgive me if some of these questions have obvious answers. I realize that there is a SilverFast custom profiling tool but prefer to use what I already have. Thanks for advice.

Did you have a specific link? I looked and found interesting topics but nothing that specifically addresses generic custon profiling issues such as how to turn off color management in FilverFast 6, like selection of a NULL profile or something. I'd also like to know the folder to place a new custom profile in.

I know there is profiling tool for SilverFast but since I have Gretag-Macbeth and need to use it on another scanner for which SilverFast is not available (CREO iQsmart3) and have had excellent results using it, I prefer to use the the one I have.

If you go to the Options button on the frame panel, tab to the CMS tab and set all of the CMS options to NONE, that should get you close. If you want a RAW file, just set the output to HDR color, and make sure "gamma for HDR is not checked. That should get you a gamma of 1 if that is what you want. Otherwise, check the HDR gamma box and set the gamma that you will always use with the profile.

WHere the profile goes depend on the operating system. The easiest way to find that is to search on the disk for *.icc, *.icm, etc (i don't know offhand what it is for Colorsync). i would expect the folder with a large number of profiles would be the one of an OS managed CMS. You should then be able to see it in the scanner profile entry on the CMS tab.

Once you have a profile you want to use
download the tutorials and read the CMS sections for using Silverfast with color management. ALso the SF manual is pretty clear about the settings.
