Color Depth Icon Meanings

Hi

I am new to the Ai Studio 8 version of Silverfast and am confused on some of the Color Depth icon settings.

I dont understand the differences between 16 ->8 Bit , 16-> 1 Bit and just 16 Bit

Can someone explain the differences or refer me to an explanation.
