Cannot Get Silverfast to Work As it Did with First Scan.....

Postby DeeDee4Re » Mon Feb 02, 2004 9:18 pm

Greetings All,
I purchased an Epson Perfection 3200 Pro Scanner for the purpose of scanning 50 year old photos. I had heard the PhotoRestoration software was wonderful.

When I first installed Silverfast Version 6.0.1r31 and did a prescan with a 50 year old football photo, it came out perfectly! I printed out the prescan - it must have been a demo because it has "Lasersoft" on the top of the page and the bottom. I was putting the wrong number in for the serial number. After I figured out the Serial number and entered it, I have not been able to get the same quality scan. The scan looks a lot more like the original - all yellow and full of spots. I have the "ACR" checked too.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and still no luck. :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a good 100 pictures to restore and I don't want to have to do this one by one by hand. I wanted it to work automatically the way the first one did.

Thanks in Advance,
DeeDee G.

Dear DeeDee4Re

simply serializing does not change the scan settings.
Please remember what it was you did thereafter...

However, you can reset all values with the backcurved arrow in the settings window (on a Macintosh) or pressing Alt-Key (keeping it pressed and clicking on the "Options"-Button (that has changed to a "Reset"-Button).
Simply checking ACR might also not be enough, please experiment by dragging the slider around how it works.

Other Changes..........

Thank you for your response Noack.

The only other changes were to change the color profile and monitor profile.

Thank you again,

Dear DeeDee

please check if you are using the same color profile in SilverFast and in Photoshop.
Please note that the color workspace you use does influence the results you achieve. There are some movies available on your CD and our website that might give you an idea of how to improve the appearance of your old photographs.

Have a nice and experimentally successful weekend :)
Kind regards, Sonny

Color Correction

Postby DeeDee4Re » Thu Feb 05, 2004 8:28 pm

I do think you are onto something. When I try to print out past files in Photoshop, they will not print out. I get a message about the color profile not being there any longer. I have to figure out what happened.
