Calibrating for different film types

Postby paulr211 » Sat Dec 27, 2003 3:58 pm

Questions relating to calibration.

I have both Ektachrome and Kodachrome reference targets. Most of the slides I am scanning are Kodachrome but there are some Ektachrome mixed in.

1. Will a single calibration, Kodachrome or Ektachrome, give acceptable results for both film types?

2. Can I select a previously run calibration to use for each film type or do I have to recalibrate with the target each time I switch between Kodachrome and Ektachrome transparencies?

3. Do I have to do a separate calibration for black & white slides?

4.

Kodachrome and Velvia sit out on their own and each really needs its own IT8 slide and therefore profiles. The dyes used in Ektachrome and most of the other Fujichromes are broadly similar so the same IT8 target can be used.

The latest builds of SilverFast only require you to select the alternative profiles. The actual profile is built once and stored as a conventional ICC profile.

I wouldn't use them at all with B&W
