Is there a setting or adjustment to solve this, or is it a bug? I have to switch back to 5.5.2.

Did/do you have a demo version of the program installed? This happened to me for weeks and it turned out that the demo didn't uninstall properly and then the retail version would not install with the same type of message you are getting. I finally fixed it by going through the registry deleting all references to Silverfast. Then it installed fine.
