bad iSRD results after update to 6.4.3r9

Postby Kul » Wed Mar 08, 2006 11:44 pm

Today I updated from 6.4.3r8 to SF Ai 6.4.3r9

I use a DigitDia 4000

The results with iSRD (automatic mode and manual mode with max sensitivity) are very bad. It was nearly perfect with the old version.

What could be the problem?
Regards

returned to r8 today and iSRD is ok

BTW the time for a scan returned to about 4 minutes, with r9 it took around 8 minutes.

Still wonder why an update delivers results inferior to the old ones.

Seams that the scale for the level has changed; go to the iSRD settings and readjust the slider.

max sensitivity is not the correct name: it is a level - if you set it too high, dark image contents is seen as dust which causes large areas to be interpolated with meaningless contents in a very time-consuming process.
This problem is also explained in the PDF manual.

You're right, the scale has changed. But I don't get good results with daoesn't matter what setting.

In automatic mode ore in manual mode with all kind of setting, there's still dust on the picture (and not just tiny spots but real big ones). I tried automatic mode and manual mode with all kinds of settings, but to no avail.

With r8 it works perfectly.

Could this be a bug?

Did you clean the film with a puff brush before scanning?

I am currently scanning about 10,000 slides and more than half through it. Brushing each slide won't fit in my workflow. I load a magazine twice a day, before I leave the house ffor work and before I go to bed.

I'm not very demanding for quality, I just want to scan my slides, mostly familiy and vacation, but having dust spots won't do, especially when the older version of the sotware does well. I just wondered why an update might be worse.

Anyway, with r8 it was ok. I only updated because the update was available.

Hello Kul,

Meanwhile I made an observation regarding your bug:
Trying to bypass another problem I had with the new version, I installed both - maybe not the right way, because the following happened: Now, the old version performs no dust removal at all with all iSRD settings. But the new version does. Maybe this has something to do with the changed scale and how preferences are processed. I just read a thread explaining that the preferences files are not compatible between version but are updated too. But I think, that they are not downgraded and new preferences need to be set up whenever changig version to be fail-safe.

OK,

I just gave iSRD in version 6.4.3r9 a try and it works just fine for me on my Epson 4990 scanner. When I upgraded I used the "web update" feature Vs downloading and going through the manual process.

I used the web update, too.

I don't recall exactly but I think I removed the pref files before updating. I'll give it another try next weekend.

btw: Does anybody know what else they adcanced in r9?
