anti-Newton Ring glass & HDRi

Postby Ptown_Paco » Wed Dec 29, 2010 12:55 am

Will anti-Newton Ring glass interfere with HDRi scanning? I have a 6x17 film holder from betterscanning.com. I also have a anti-Newton Ring glass for it (which makes scanning much easier).

Dear Ptown_Paco,

anti-Newton Glass should not have any influence on HDRi scans other than prohibiting Newton rings.
It is only possible the Glass could disturb the infrared beam, but this should normally not happen.
It would be best if you created some testscans and test them in SilverFast HDR before you start archiving.
Normally I would not expect any problems.

kind regrads,
Arne Ketelhohn.

Well, I think this is exactly what happens. At least for me HDRi did not work at all with the AN-glass that came with the Better Scanning MF holder, used with the Epson Perfection V750 Pro. The HDRi scans transformed via iSRD showed no correction but instead countless small artefacts making it look like totally dusted negatives. I guess the infrared beam cannot function properly through that glass. I cannot tell, if this holds true for all AN-glass. So tests are really advisable...

Kind regards,

Xenia

Thanks for the Info Xenia,

In conclusion, please test before you dip into a workflow that might not work for your purpose.

i suspect it is a different issue.

Talk with the folks at FocalPoint glass about your issue. They have a lot of experience. i had no issues with my Nikon CS
