Silverfast 8 for Minolta 5400 and 5400II

Silverfast 8 for Minolta 5400 and 5400II

Postby TheAudioDoc » Thu Aug 25, 2011 8:02 pm

I realize that Silverfast 8 is still in the early stages of release. I see that CD/DVD versions are still not released. Also that we Minolta 5400 and 5400 II users have to wait. Any idea how long the wait will be and when the disc versions will be available?
Also i notice that only the download versions are available for Archive Suite 6.6 and it will no longer include an IT8 target. Why?
When version 8 is available will it include an IT8 target? Will the pricing be the same as version 6.6? I understand if we purchase version 6.6 now we get a free upgrade to 8? I'm trying to understand all this and whether there is any advantage to waiting for version 8 or buying version 6.6 now.

Thanks,

Kelly

Hi Kelly

TheAudioDoc wrote:Any idea ...when the disc versions will be available?

We are in the process of creating the package design, etc, etc. Most likely in the coming weeks
TheAudioDoc wrote:Minolta 5400 and 5400 II users have to wait.

Since Minolta does not produce drivers for its scanners anymore. We will have to program new drivers for these scanners, it is too soon to tell if the implementation with the scanners will be possible at all. We are positive about it but can not tell with certainty.
We want to implement many scanners until the end of this year (including this two models)
TheAudioDoc wrote:Also i notice that only the download versions are available for Archive Suite 6.6 and it will no longer include an IT8 target. Why?

Archive Suites with targets included are just "limited time" promos.
TheAudioDoc wrote:When version 8 is available will it include an IT8 target?

No, IT8 calibration targets are and will be sold separately (unless we have one of the promotions mentioned above).
TheAudioDoc wrote:Will the pricing be the same as version 6.6?

The price for the Archive Suite 8 will be about the same for new customers.

It is correct, if you get the Archive Suite 6.6 now for your Minolta scanner, you will get a free update to SilverFast 8

(Warning, this might not be true to all scanners. Very old scanner models might not be implemented in SilverFast 8 or might not be eligible for free upgrade introductory promotion when implemented).

Thank you, Alejandro!

Appreciate the clarification! The fact that the 5400 and 5400 II are on the list of scanners that SF ver. 8 will be available fo, is the "positive" you mentioned.

Any more news on 8 support for 5400? I just won an auction for one last week and I want to drive it with the Silverfast. Also is it possible to get an upgrade price if I already have 6.6 for the v750?

No news now. Yes you can get a cross upgrade price with your serial number of SilverFast for your Epson Perfection V750

How does the demo work? Is it time based or unlimited with a watermark? I'd like to try it out before buying, but at the same time I don't have a lot of time to spend on it this week. I don't want to run out of the demo before really getting to run it through the paces, but I am anxious to try the new scanner once I get it set up...

We understand that as a consumer a prospective date is important. However due to the complexity of this project we can not give any date yet.
If you suscribe to our newsletter, an email will be send to you as soon as a SilverFast version is available

Demo version of SilverFast 6.6 is only watermarked

Demo version of SilverFast 8 is time based (limited to 30 days) and watermarked.

The drivers supplied by Minolta work just fine with Silverfast and do not need to be replaced or rewritten. Below you will find the procedure to make virtually any Minolta scanner work in Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 both 32-bit and 64-bit allowing the scanners to work with Silverfast:

1) Find the name of the driver file the Minolta software installed that isn't working. This is usually in the folder c:\windows\inf and is named DSXXXX.inf where the X's are numbers. For the Dimage 5400 gen 1 it is DS2890.inf. Copy this file to your desktop for editing.
2) Open the file and search for [Manufacturer]. Add ,ntamd64 at the end of the %Mfg% line so %Mfg%=Models becomes %Mfg%=Models,ntamd64.
3) Copy the entire [Models] section and paste it underneath itself renaming the tag to [Models.ntamd64]. Now you should have both a [Models] and [Models.ntamd64] section that are identical.
4) Save the driver file.
5) Now point the scanner in device manager to your new driver file (it may be in other devices and just need to update driver and manually choose driver location as your new driver inf).

This process not only allows all scanners to work with Silverfast, but also allows the original Minolta software to work in Windows 7 (32 and 64) as well. This process works for old Nikons that don't have Windows 7 drivers as well once you locate the actual driver file in c:\windows\inf.

Hope that helps.
