Anyone know if the Belkin F5U541 FireWire to SCSI adapter will work with a Linoscan 2650 in 10.3 Panther?

Thanks

Yes you are right, the Belkin adapter has the P/N F5U541.

And please update to the latest Silverfast.

thank you for your input.

kind regards

This is quite interesting, in that I just checked the Belkin site and found this FireWire to SCSI adapter F5U541.

I decided to check the drivers to see what was current and the most current driver posted was from February 2002 for OS 9. I couldn't find any OSX drivers posted, or information that the adapter could be used in OSX.

Is Belkin woefully behind on their information? Someone else said they already were using it with Panther and I would be interested in where the driver came from.

I had downloaded the SF6.1 demo for the Minolta Multiscan II and it worked fine with OSX 10.2.8 and the Adaptec 29160N 1.1.0 driver from several years ago.

However when I bought SF6.2 this week and used it with Panther 10.3.2 the SF won't find the scanner. Funny, my Minolta DiMAGE scanner software v1.0.2 from 2002 works just fine in Panther 10.3.2.

The Silverfast site kept telling me that there was an error in my posting and gave me no indication that it would continue the process and post the message. I thought perhaps it was a combination of problems between their server and my different browsers, and so I kept trying to post.

I have a G4 system with 2 Adaptec SCSI cards - a 2930 and a 2906. I have 2 scanners - a Umax Astra 2200 and a Nikon Coolscan LS30. I am presently moving from OS9.2.2 to OS10.3.2 and downloaded the latest demo versions of Silverfast SE for both scanners (1220 for the Umax).

The Umax is on the 2930 with an external CD drive and the Nikon is on the 2906 (the Nikon has a known problem with the 2930 where it hangs when the film adapter is inserted). Silverfast SE works great with the UMAX, but will not recognise the Nikon. v**s**n sees both scanners. Silverfast SE works with both scanners in OS9.2.2.

I must agree with the previous poster who suggested that this is an LSI problem and not an OS or hardware one. I am ready and waiting to part with my cash to buy Silverfast SE for both scanners if and when this problem is resolved. If this isn't going to happen please let me know so that I can buy v**s**n instead.

Dear Adrian Fowler.

Frankly my test with the Linoscan 2650 and the Belkin Converter was negativ. I reported this setup and since this can be a very comfortable solution for everybody with Firewire we will try to make this work as soon as possible.
I will post the result here.

Kind regards.

Is the Microtek Artixscan 1100 working hooked on an Adaptec 2906 in a G4 with release in 10.3 Panther?

Those of you contemplating buying the FireWire/SCSI adapter might want to try the new SF version 6.2.0r4. I installed it last night, and it solved all of my problems with Panther and my HP 4C.

Saying goodbye to v**s**n for now (it took me twice as long to scan with v**s**n).

Since this was solved by LaserSoft, it?s obvious the problem was not with our equipment or OS after all, just as we all suspected.

I?m very happy they figured this out.

Dear Adaptec SCSI controller card users with OSX Panther and Tiger

Actually, Adaptec and Panther/Tiger do not go very well together. Adaptec has even canceled support for all Mac OS:
http://tinyurl.com/542qy

SilverFast testing center experienced severe SCSI detection problems with OS X 10.3.0 and 10.3.1.

The update to 10.3.2 made Panther somewhat more compatible with some SCSI controllers, however, still not smooth as things have been in Jaguar 10.2.8 (cf.: IOSCSIDeviceInterface not supported under Panther -
http://tinyurl.com/9peu8 ).

Apple explicitely changed things that caused SCSI problems in 10.3.3 that should be rectified with an update to 10.3.4 ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107914 ).
There is no notion concerning SCSI in the 10.3.5 release notes and beyond including 10.4.2.

We found SCSI controller cards by Acard ( http://www.acard.com.tw/english/home.jsp ) to be very compliant with a wide range of SCSI scanners, especially the 6712TUM and 67160M /67162M (for G5) models.

Alternatively, you might be interested in SCSI-to-Firewire converters like the Ratoc FR1SX ( http://tinyurl.com/2g6oa ) or the Belkin F5S451U. We had positive testing experience with both converters, too.

Also, there's an hacker's guide to reactivate the lost SCSI API from Jaguar in Panther and Tiger, if you'd like to try this at home: http://tinyurl.com/cw7nx

SCSI to FireWire converter suport

Postby Ole Thomsen - Creas » Wed Aug 08, 2007 1:47 pm

Would it be possible to make a list i(perhaps in the FAQ section) of scanners that are known to work with a SCSI to FireWire converter?

We have a few customers with PFU scanners that would be happe to hear that they can use their scanner with a coverter.

Thanks
