Hello,

Canon released the Windows 7 64 bit drivers on Oct 19, 2009: TWAIN Driver - 9950F Scanner Driver Ver. 10.3.2.4a_64 (Windows 7 x64/Vista64/XP x64). Will an update for SF AI Studio be available? I noticed that you released SF for the 8800 and other canon scanners already. Canon's release date for the 8800 drivers was Oct 26, 2009.

Most likely we will release your scanner under Windows 7. All scanners have to undergo a test process under every operating system and the scanner model in question is already on our queue.

We update the scanner list on a regular basis (according to the results of our test).

As soon as we have support this scanner under windows 7 we will surely publish this on our site.

I noticed that Silverfast support for windows 7 has recently been provided but only for the 32 bit version of the Windows 7 O/S, for which I suspect there will be few users. I have been waiting nearly 2 years for Silverfast to support this scanner with 64 bit O/S (silverfast support for windows vista 64 didn't happen)
Will / when will 64 bit O/S support be provided? The9950f was an expensive scanner in its day and I would like to try it again, with Silverfast, but if the 64 bit support is never coming I would rather trash the scanner, not going back to 32 bit. Has anyone tested Silverfast for 9950f in Windows 7 "XP Mode"?

According to our programmers, there are some specific libraries required in the driver for SilverFast to work with the scanner. Aparently the 64 bit O.S. drivers for this scanner do not contain the required data. Our programmers are studying the possibility of a workaround for this issue.
At this time we can not tell for sure if it will be possible, and if so, when will it be possible to support this scanner model under 64 bits windows operating systems.

In a similar line, is the software for the Canon 9950F likely to become available for Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)?

We will test this scanner to see if our present version of SilverFast is compatible with it. If that is the case we will publish it on our site. If the scanner is not compatible, it has to undergo some analysis to see what can be done to support the scanner under Snow Leopard.

Please check on our list of supported scanners in a couple of weeks to see if your scanner is supported.

I appreciate your efforts and your difficulties in providing a WIN7/64x printer driver for the Canon 9950F. I think you are aware that Adobe is urging us strongly to migrate to WIN7/64x for their CS4 bundle of software, and will require it for the upcoming CS5 versions. I treasure the versatility and capabilities of the 9950F too much to simply trash this scanner (and my purchased Silverfast software) unless I am forced to it. I am working with old photographs, and I love the combination of the 9950F and AI Studio / WINXP.
Could you please give us a status update? Does it look likely that we will get a 64x printer driver? If so, when? I am eager to buy more software from you (HDR, IT8 calibration), but it is tied to the specific printer I have, and I have no intention of paying for it twice. If you are unable/unwilling to support the 9950F in WIN7/64x mode, could you at least give us free migration of our current 9950F software to the equivalent software for a supported scanner?

The problem in this case is not only if SilverFast can run in XP mode, I am sure it's possible. But the driver probably still won't work.
You can give it a try, but this kind of workaround is not officially supported by LaserSoft Imaging (unless indicated otherwise for your scanner model).

The installation should be carried out as usual. First the manufacturer driver, then SilverFast.

You must download and test the different drivers, we have heard from some other people, Windows 7 64 bits preventing 32 bit drivers from being installed, even if ran under xp compatibility mode.

You can download and install the latest version of SilverFast for Windows XP.

I had wondered about this workaround for the Canon 9950F myself (virtual XP mode in Win 7 64x), and was urged on to try it by the above correspondence.
I went into virtual WinXP within Win7 64x, downloaded the demo AIStudio/Canon 9950F program, and tried it out in free-standing mode (Photoshop not loaded). AiStudio recognized the scanner without a problem, and I scanned a trimmed section of a page in color, did a trial selective color correction, and saved in my normal video drive (not within the virtual machine).
When I went back to Win7 64x, I found the saved file to be present, and called it up in Photoshop. My heart sank as I saw a lot of tiny inperfections, but realized on blow-up that they were Lasersoft watermarks introduced by the demo! We may perhaps be in luck!
Since Silverfast apparently cannot support the Canon 9950F under Win7 64x, I would urge you to further investigate the virtual XP mode, and officially support it if you find no problem yourself. We users have done part of the work for you already.

Thank you for the information. It is not that we do not want to test this workaround. We know from other customers who reported quite the opposite experience as yours.
Workarounds do not behave the same on all machines,and we do not have influence on such workarounds, hence we can not officially support them.

That is exactly the reason why we strongly recommend users with similar problems to download and test the demo version before taking the next step.

I have read all the above posts, but here is my problem. I have a scanner that I love. That under XP worked wonderfully with Silverfast SE and CS4. Now since I had to get a new machine with Win 7 I am unable to use them together. Are there any plans at all to support this combination? If not an earlier poster asked if we may move to another supported scanner combination with out cost. Can you answer that question please.

Our developers are trying to find a way to access your scanner in Windows7 64.
Unfortunately I can not guess if or when this will be possible.
Crossgrades from one scanner to another will have to be bought from our webshop.
